RLF 2010 in association with Roscommon County Council give you a jam packed day for all the family!
A full menu of activities are taking place in Loughnaneane Park in the full glory of Roscommon Castle. Linking up with the Wool Craft Village in the Square and the International Sheepdog trials in Walsh’s Field – there will be something for everyone as we showcase family fun, heritage and food all in one place! Facepainting, balloon modelling, music, pony rides, dancing and entertainment. Admission is free – so bring all the family.
Activities on the day include:
Sheep Racing with raffle sweepstake – 2.30pm
We have a spectacular sheep race lined up with 12 of the fittest and fastest sheep around! Raffle sweepstake on the day with an overall prize winner for each race.
Pet Lamb, Bo Peep & Boy Blue Competition – 3.00pm
Prizes will be awarded for the cutest pet lamb – so get your little lamb cleaned and groomed and on show! Competition confined to competitors under 15 years of age. Followed by the Little Bo Peep & Little Boy Blue Competition. Children must be under 10 years of age to enter this competition. Prizes sponsored by Texas, Main Street, Roscommon Town and Island View Canine Creche Boarding and Training Kennels, Lecarrow.
Global Kitchen International Culinary Extravaganza – All day
Based in our Food Village – taste a variety of special Roscommon lamb dishes cooked in a variety of ways from different nationalities and cultures in Roscommon. Tasting tokens starting at €1
Traditional Skills Showcase – All day
A brilliant showcase of traditional skills using natural materials – dry stone wall building, hedge laying, hurdle making, cleft ash gate making, Hazel sheep hurdle making, barbeque Charcoal making.
Army No 1 Band – 3.00pm – 4.00pm
The No. 1 Band has performed at all major ceremonial occasions since the foundation of the State, including all Presidential Inaugurations from that of President Douglas Hyde to the present day. We are delighted to have them for our festival! The band will march from the Town Square to the Town Park.
